Canberra's first C.A.L.L.S home-visit GP: side income now, your own practice as we grow

No GP has joined C.A.L.L.S in Canberra yet, or anywhere else in Australia. This is an invitation for a Canberra GP to start with flexible side income around the work they already do, and be first to build it into a full practice as the platform grows.

The ACT has recorded the lowest bulk-billing rate of any Australian jurisdiction, with fewer GPs per head of population than Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. No C.A.L.L.S GP is live in Canberra yet - this is a call for the first ones.

Why Canberra needs a bulk-billing alternative right now

Canberra's access problem is unusually well documented for a capital city. The ACT has repeatedly recorded the lowest bulk-billing rate in the country - reported as low as the low-to-mid 50s percent in recent quarters, against a national figure well above that - and the Canberra Times reports the ACT has around 93 full-time-equivalent GPs per 100,000 people, compared with roughly 117 across other major Australian cities (Canberra Times). The Commonwealth's own figures put Canberra at around 20% fewer GPs per person than Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. That is a capital city, with comparatively high household incomes, still running short of GP access.

That local gap sits against a national bulk billing rate of 84.1% in the June 2026 quarter, down from 88.9% in 2020-21, and more than 1.5 million Australians who now delay or avoid seeing a GP due to cost, up from around 600,000 in 2022 (AAP, citing ABS data). Canberra is, on the numbers, one of the clearest cases in the country for a private home-visit alternative.

A side income that fits around the work you already do

You keep your clinic, locum or hospital role, and add home visits around it, choosing your own Canberra suburb zones - inner north, inner south, Belconnen, Tuggeranong, or Gungahlin - and your own hours (how it works). There is no quota, no room rental to clear first, and no commission - you keep 100% of the fee you set, paying only a flat monthly membership (pricing). Pause your availability whenever your other work takes priority.

The RACGP's Health of the Nation reporting found over 70% of GPs report burnout, and almost a third intend to cut back or quit within five years (RACGP). In a jurisdiction already short on GPs per capita, a flexible side income that does not add to that burnout is a meaningfully different proposition than another fixed shift.

Be the first C.A.L.L.S GP in Canberra

Nobody has claimed Canberra yet. Deloitte projects a national 11,392 FTE GP shortfall by 2032, 27.9% of the workforce (RACGP), and the AMA estimates close to $4 billion has been stripped from general practice nationally by the Medicare rebate freeze (AMA). A GP who joins first in a city with Canberra's documented GP shortage is stepping into one of the clearest gaps in the country, and as bookings in their zones build, that side income has real room to become a full home-visit practice.

Frequently asked questions

Is C.A.L.L.S already operating in Canberra?

No. C.A.L.L.S has zero GPs onboarded anywhere in Australia, including Canberra. This page is for GPs considering joining, not for patients looking to book a visit today.

Can I do this as a side income alongside my hospital or clinic work?

Yes. You choose your own Canberra suburb zones and availability windows, so it sits around existing clinic sessions, locum shifts or hospital work. There is no quota (source: how it works).

Is there evidence Canberra specifically needs a bulk-billing alternative?

Yes. The ACT has repeatedly recorded the lowest bulk-billing rate of any Australian jurisdiction, and has fewer GPs per head of population than Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. Nationally, bulk billing was 84.1% in June 2026, down from 88.9% in 2020-21.

What is the upside of being first in Canberra?

An early Canberra GP can build a full home-visit practice as the platform grows, not just hold a side gig. There is no commission, so income scales with demand (source: pricing).
