Fortitude Valley at a glance
At the 2021 Census, the ABS statistical area named Fortitude Valley (an area the ABS uses for statistics, which may differ from the suburb boundary) had a population of 9,512 and a median age of 31, compared with 38 for Australia as a whole (ABS Census QuickStats).
Greater Brisbane had a population of 2,780,063 at 30 June 2024, growing by 2.7 percent over 2023-24, according to the ABS Regional population release. Census figures are from 2021, so the current population will differ.
Why home visits matter
Getting to a clinic is a barrier for some patients even in a capital city. The ABS Patient Experiences survey records transport and distance among the reasons people delay or skip seeing a health professional, and a review of older Australians' access to health services found transport posed multiple barriers. The AIHW found half of older Australians' falls hospitalisations occur in the home.
We have not published Fortitude Valley-specific patient numbers for home visits, and we do not promise bookings.
See the evidence for demand
Private, daytime home visiting already exists in more than one Australian city, not just as a theory. Perth Home GP is a privately billed mobile GP practice in Perth, founded in 2020, that offers daytime and after-hours home visits and publishes its fees. It also lists GP partnerships. In Sydney, HomeDoc, run by Dr Terry Nguyen, describes itself as Sydney's only GP doing house calls during regular business hours, privately billed, with published fees of 160 to 250 dollars - in the same range as a typical C.A.L.L.S visit. We also found a Melbourne CBD clinic that offers home and hotel visits from 999 dollars, but that is a corporate and hotel-guest concierge service at several times the usual home-visit fee, not a comparable retail model, so we have not used it as evidence here. We looked for a retail daytime, privately billed model in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart and Darwin and found only after-hours, bulk-billed deputising services, or ad-hoc home visits for a clinic's own existing patients. We have not found published patient numbers for Perth Home GP or HomeDoc, so we do not quote one. These pages set out the wider evidence, and none of it guarantees bookings or income:
